We were browsing around Arrowine one day and noticed a bunch of people buying baguettes, often in large quantities. We asked the lady at the counter about it and she told us the baguettes are made by LeoNora bakery right here in Arlington, VA. She raved, swearing these breads are amazing. She was right!
Carolina Garcia of LeoNora Bakery bakes delicious fresh breads and other tasty items daily. Garcia lived in France for two years, and then started baking her own breads because she couldn’t find what she wanted in the US. She later returned to France to study the art of bread making. In other words, this woman knows her stuff and she puts her passion for baking into each and every thing she makes. The baguette we tried was wonderful. Nice color on the outside, chewy yet soft on the inside, and priced well at $2.50. We ate the end piece on the car ride home. Then had some later, toasted with butter. And then had even more with San Daniele prosciutto. However you slice it, this baguette is a winner.
We went back to Arrowine a week later for the Brioche. Soft, buttery, deliciousness! LeoNora’s brioche seemed a wee bit expensive at $9, but then we realized how big the braided loaf is. It’s perfect for a family or for sharing with friends. The brioche is a newer feature and is made only certain days of the week. Be sure to follow LeoNora on twitter (@LeonoraBakery) so you will know when the brioche is available. Plan to go early because it sells out fast!
We don’t buy bread often, so when we do, we yearn for something reallllly good, tasty, and fresh. Thank goodness for LeoNora Bakery. Their breads will make you laugh and smile. They might even make you cry….if you have a dog with major high jumping skills and a secret talent for brioche thievery.
